Ronidazole is a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal drug with therapeutic activity against Trichomonas and Hexamita (Sporonucleus) spp.
Description
Ronidazole is a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal drug with therapeutic activity against Trichomonas and Hexamita (Sporonucleus) spp. In these protozoa ronidazol is converted into polar autotoxic anion radicals. Following administration via drinking water, ronidazol is quickly and nearly completely absorbed resulting in a high bioavailability, and maximum blood levels are typically reached within 6 hours after administration. Besides
antiprotozoal action, ronidazole also exerts activity against anaerobic bacteria.
